Dust and Dirt is everywhere, but germs and bacteria- that’s an entirely different story.  That will be in places you never suspect, and you won’t be able to see it.  That’s why you need to always have a few key items available to you to quickly keep your area clean and as healthy as possible.

1.        Baby wipes

There are so many lesser-known uses for these secret weapons. They’re great for everything from removing eye make-up to cleaning messy faces. In the home, they are the perfect spot remover. Baby wipes quickly pick up stains on carpets and upholstery and don't leave behind soapy residue that actually ATTRACTS MORE dirt, like many specialized carpet and upholstery cleaners do. Wipes are also great for walls and woodwork.

2.      Toothbrush

Sometimes you just need to get in that tight spot and clean… and the Army was right, it often takes a toothbrush to do it. Keep a toothbrush around to clean corners of grout, stained tops of woodwork, or any nook and cranny that needs a scrubbing.

3.      Microfiber cleaning cloths

These cloths are miracle workers. They make cleaning a snap and shine like nothing else. These clothes have many uses, but here are just a few: shining and brightening granite, glass, chrome or metal, and they work WONDERS on ceramic stovetops.

4.      Electrostatic mopping/dusting cloths

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you recognize the name ‘Swiffer’. These cloths work miracles in getting up dust bunnies, hair, and anything small and difficult-to-grab. Do yourself a favor and follow vacuuming with an electrostatic mop! You'll be amazed at everything your vacuum leaves behind and that these little gems pick up. Too expensive for you? Then put an old pair of stockings or pantyhose over a mop and use this after vacuuming. It does an amazing job.

5.      Telescoping duster

The handy dusters that extend as you push down on them through the tube cover are a must! Everyone needs to get into those hard to reach places. Get a telescoping duster to help you reach into high corners, dust chandeliers, or tops of bookcases.

Polish brass and copper
You can create vinegar paste to clean brass and copper.

Use equal parts white vinegar and salt or vinegar and baking soda.

Use a soft cloth or paper towel to run the paste into your brass or copper until the tarnish disappears.

Rinse off with cool water and then buff to a shine with a clean soft cloth.

Get rid of pen marks
Nothing can be more frustrating than accidentally writing on a nice, clean white shirt or blouse.

You can remove pen marks with white vinegar on a sponge. Keep repeating until the marks are gone.

Your budding artist child’s decoration on your living room wall will disappear in no time.

Remove sticker residue

You can remove a sticker or decal that is on a painted surface by saturating the corners and edges with white vinegar.

Scrape it off with a plastic card.

The sticky remains can also be removed by soaking it with white vinegar and then wiping clean.

You can un-stick the sticker or price tag from just about any surface using white vinegar.

Clean your piano keys
Clean piano keys with a solution of equal parts vinegar and water.

Dip a soft cloth into the solution and ring out as much as possible.
Wipe each key gently, drying with a soft cloth as you go.

Be sure to leave the keyboard uncovered for 24 hours after cleaning.

Deodorize small spaces
You can use vinegar to deodorize a lunch box, car trunk or footlocker by soaking a piece of white bread in vinegar then placing it in the closed space over night.

By morning, the smell should be gone.

5 Ideas for cleaning with Vinegar

1.       Cleaning your computer

Vinegar is a surprisingly great cleanser, including being a strong disinfectant.  You can clean your computer, keyboard, printer, and other office gear with a mixture of vinegar and water.

First, remember to turn off all your equipment for your safety!

Next, wet a lightweight microfiber cloth with a mixture (equal parts) of vinegar and water.  Please ensure that the cloth is not dripping wet, as this could damage your electronics.

Finally, use the cloth and gently run across all surfaces.  If there are tough sports or hard-to-reach spots, use a cotton swab.

2.       Clean your window blinds

Sometimes window blinds are ignored, at least for multiple weeks at a time.  You can use vinegar to quickly and easily clean these difficult spots to reach.

First, make a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar.

Second, put on a white cotton glove and dip your fingers in the solution and slide your fingers across the blinds.  Make sure you squeeze the blinds in between your fingers to get both sides of the blind.

Make sure you have a bowl of water nearby to clean your glove off occasionally with.

      3.       Unclog and Deoderize drains

Using the words “vinegar” and “deodorize” in the same sentence is comical, for those who know how strong the smell of vinegar is.  However, the pungent smell indicates a level of strength that is able to unclog your sink and tub drains.

First, Pour a half cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar down the drain through a funnel.  The mixture will foam up considerably.

Next, once the foaming has subsided, flush the drain with HOT tap water.  Wait five
minutes and flush again with COLD water.  This will also deodorize the drains.

If you want to speed up a slow drain, pour a half cup of salt followed by two cups of boiling vinegar down the drain.  Flush with hot water, then cold water and your drain will perform much better.

    4.       Eliminate that Smoke smell          Anyone that has experienced this knows that the smell of smoke can stay for months (if not years) on clothes, furniture, rugs, and more!  Vinegar can help eliminate these odors.

Place a small bowl filled three-quarters full of white or cider vinegar in the room where the smell is the strongest.  In less than 1 day, the odor will be gone.

     5.       Get rid of mildew stains

You can apply full strength vinegar to heavy mildew stains or dilute half and half with water for light stains.  You don’t have to worry about ventilation and you can apply white vinegar to nearly any surface without worry.

You can also prevent mildrew from forming on rugs and carpets by misting the back of the rug with full strength white vinegar in a spray bottle.
